WHAT a night for the Brits at the Golden Globe Awards.

One of my favourite moments was Christian Bale, Best Actor In A Movie winner for Vice, thanking his wife and kids: “Banana and Burrito”.

No one blinked, but I laughed out loud as they’re actually called Emmaline and James…well, that’s Hollywood for you!

The best, though, was catching up with a bodyguard. Not just any old bouncer, but THE Bodyguard.

Richard Madden cemented that position by lifting the Golden Globe for Best Actor In A Television Show, for his brilliant performance in Bodyguard.

Not bad for a guy from Elderslie!

Bodyguard’s success made Richard incredibly proud – not just of the show and the people making it, but of the entire British television industry.

“I’m just blown away that so many people have enjoyed it,” he told me. “I’m just glad it’s gone down so well.”

“There’s some brilliant talent in the UK making great TV.”

Richard was in Los Angeles at the BAFTA LA Tea Party, before heading off to the Golden Globes.

He was part of a night of fantastic British success here in tinsel town which saw Olivia Colman win Best Movie Actress for her role in The Favourite.

Richard brought along two very special guests for the glitzy bash – mum Pat, a classroom assistant, and dad Richard, a fireman.

That’s how to win brownie points with the parents, Richard!

I wondered how they were coping, mingling with the likes of Bradley Cooper, Nicole Kidman and Idris Elba.

“My parents are here and I’m kind of living it through them,” Richard said.

“It was all very exciting for them. I’m having a great time, too.”

Someone Richard’s bodyguard would need to look out for is Villanelle, the psychopathic assassin from hit BBC comedy-thriller Killing Eve.

I chatted with the wonderful Jodie Comer on the red carpet, too.

“Playing a character like Villanelle, well she’s one of a kind,” explained Jodie. “The writer, Pheobe Waller-Bridge, breaks stereotypes and says the unsayable.

“She brings forward the darkest parts of the mind that none of us like to admit to.

“She’s just such a special character. It’s for people to enjoy!

“The reaction was huge, but I always had confidence in Phoebe.”
